Lighting a Large Country House Kitchen

One of our earlier projects in one of the country’s finest stately homes.  The kitchen and family snug area are private rooms in an old wing of the building.  The high ceilings presented quite a challenge at a time when LED lacked the output and quality that it has today.

Using all the available fixing points to get light where it is needed

The ceilings in the kitchen are approximately 4m high.  We minimised the use of downlights in the ceiling, prefering to use joinery and kitchen fittings to house high quality functional lighting.

We threw light into the high ceiling space with punchy linear LED fittings mounted on top of the cupboards and dresser.  Lower level task lighting on the kitchen island comes from the pan rack.  We used high quality fittings with excellent colour rendering which were built into the corbels of the pan rack.  It’s a neat solution for delivering shadow-free task lighting in such a tall space.
