Lighting design for a beautiful Yorkshire Stone house

This project is a beautifully restored Yorkshire Stone house.  With interesting split level architecture and the key living spaces spread over three floors, the lighting plays an important role in zoning the house and tying the different elements together.

Kitchen lighting with soft lighting in the living area

Kitchen Lighting

The kitchen is an expansive multi-functional room with a large island and breakfast bar as well as a dining area and casual living area. Lighting zones the space with great task lighting for the work areas and a touch of glamourous decorative (and functional) lighting over the breakfast bar. It’s a contemporary, clean-lined look and the lighting sets it off beautifully.

As with the other floors of the house, real care has been taken on sight lines. Lighting accentuates the strong vertical lines taking your eye through the house and opening the spaces up. Simple colour-changing LED fittings in the office create a fun backdrop while the office itself can be made more private with Lutron controlled privacy glass. The whole area is shaded with wonderfully quiet and elegant Lutron Palladiom blinds.  The lighting and blinds across the whole house are controlled by a Lutron Homeworks QSX system.

Feature lighting on the staircase

Feature lighting on the stairs

The stairs are a significant feature of the house forming a spine up and down from the main entrance floor. The triple height wall behind the stairs formed a great ‘canvas’ for using lighting as ‘artwork.’  Decorative feature LED fittings provide fun yet practical lighting.

Colour changing LED lighting outide the gym, sauna and music room

The lower ground floor is a fun space with a gym, sauna, music room and a study.  Colour-changing LED lighting can transform the whole floor, creating drama and atmosphere through the heart of the house. Colour-change lighting can be polarising. We use it sparingly, saving it for the right project, clients and setting. It works brilliantly here.  Select the colour bars to change the look yourself.

Bathroom Lighting

Simple bathroom lighting softens the surfaces and adds contrast to the walls and niche.  The lighting makes the most of the clean, modern materials.
